Dartmoor Prison break is one of two ultra-endurance events that the team organises and co-ordinates. The premise is to see how far, on foot you can “escape” from the prison in either 12 or 24 hours.
This year the cunning race executives had dropped in a twist by adding in 3 wardens. The warden’s job was to catch the escapees and take a selfie with them, which would be posted on Facebook.
It all started very early yesterday morning with the team setting up marquees for registration, kit check, T-shirt and medals and then the merchandise and coffee stands. If participants fancied a sports massage they were able to use the services of Joanne Matthews for a small donation.
Registration opened at 09:30 and then the participants all set off at Midday, running out of the prison main gate. The wardens were released 20 minutes later.
The participants would be monitored by a couple members of the team back at the Rescue centre for the full 24 hours. Each escapee had been allocated a tracker which enabled race control to keep an eye on everyone.
We would like to say a special thank you to HMP Dartmoor for their co-operation in letting us use their grounds to hold the event.
The team is already looking forward to our next event, Midnight Madness on August 17th. If you fancy a walk by moonlight please see our website for more information.
