Last night saw the return of the team to the first usual training format since lockdown.
Julian was the organiser of the evening which had two main objectives. The first was to validate operational standard 1.1 with general navigation and the second was to identify the coverage of the digital radio signal in the areas of Ringmoor Down, Gutter Tor, Ditsworthy and Burrator.
Five teams of no more than six have been allocated earlier on in the evening and when all parties had arrived at the RV of Ringmoor Cottage, they were given a map and a list of checkpoints. At each checkpoint, the radio controller was to call in and advise control of the Grid reference and checkpoint number. Each of the routes was different and all-around 5 miles long. It was a very enjoyable yomp around a scenic part of the moor.
As pubs have now been allowed to open, the team finished off the evening with a very welcome pint, flapjack and catch up outside the Royal Oak at Meavy.
As restriction guidelines have been eased, we are now able to look forward to some normality with being able to attend training sessions each week again. Thanks to Julian for organising this week’s training.
