It is with sadness that we hear of the passing of Doug Scott CBE, who passed away peacefully at his home in the Lake District on 7th December.
Doug is most famous for being the first Briton to climb Mount Everest. In 1975 he topped out on Everest with Dougal Haston having made the first ascent of the South West face.
Doug was very supportive of our team, raising funds during his talks one of which he gave at the University of Plymouth where a lot of our members attended.
Some of our members had the privilege to climb a slab on the Lundy island together with Doug.
Doug should be remembered for his work with the local people of Nepal. Founding Community Action Nepal and setting up 15 schools, 20 health posts, 3 porter rescue centres and numerous community buildings.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Doug’s family & friends at this sad time.
