Two years ago the team celebrated its 50th Anniversary. This year our very own legend MBE Richard has reached that momentous figure.Â
Richard joined the Plymouth section of the Dartmoor Rescue Group, as it was known then, on the 12th January 1971. His first training night was based at Higher white Tor, Lower white and then back along the wall.  Â
The team consisted of about 10-12 members with very minimal equipment. Richard himself confirmed that the concrete block-sized radios were as much use as two tins and some string in some of the areas on the moor.Â
Throughout his Dartmoor Rescue career, Richard has held the Team Treasurer reins twice and has been the Dartmoor Rescue Groups Treasurer on 3 separate occasions and is still the holder of that post.Â
Richard received the great award of becoming a life member in 2004. One of his greatest accolades was to hold the Chairman and Team Leaders posts from 2005-2008 and then went on to attend a Search Managers course in 2010.
In an email from Richard, he stated that it has been an honour and a privilege to be a member of the team. So we would like to wish you a very Happy Anniversary and to thank you for all that you have done over the years. Your sense of humour, knowledge and wisdom has been a great asset to everyone who has known you. Richard, it has been an honour and a privileged to have been able to work alongside you and we look forward to being able to raise a glass and say cheers in the not too distant future.
