Sunday 10th October saw nearly 1200 very fit and/or crazy cyclists brave the elements to take on the 23 or 52km Tour de Moor event, in aid of raising money for St Lukes Hospice. Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Plymouth were very privileged to be asked back for the third year to provide medical cover for the event.
It was an early start for the team at Harrowbeer airfield as we needed to set up the control base out of zero four and the medical tent to treat any potential casualties. Eighth field teams were strategically placed around the course and would be able to mobilise swiftly with the help of our two Land rovers when the need arose. We were working very closely with Devon & Cornwall 4×4 Response who were providing transport throughout the day.
The weather was very nice and even warm at times, it turned into a glorious day on Dartmoor.
We were called to several incidents throughout the day but thankfully no one was seriously injured. Much of the day was spent cheering on participants!
All in all, it was a fantastic day for all of those who took part, and all of the volunteers that helped make the event a great success.
