The team has a new home! The Team has taken possession of the keys to its new base at 4 Devonshire Meadows, Broadley Park near Roborough. The new, bigger base is less than a mile from the national park boundary.
Through the kindness of our team supporters and corporate partners, the new building was purchased in June 2015. The team is now embarking on a major fundraising campaign to fully kit out the building.
Publicity officer Neil Handley says: “Fundraising will include moorland sponsored walks, safety cover for events, attendance at church or village events, lectures and talks to groups and partnership activities with Plymouth University.”
He added: “The new base, being much larger than the previous one, will provide storage for two rescue vehicles and associated equipment. Also new for the team will be a large area for a dual team-training or public-education facility on site.”
In autumn 2015 the team received a significant donation from the Big Lottery Fund to assist in completing the works for the Rescue Centre. In particular, the funds have been designated to complete the community engagement and team training area above and below the mezzanine level that was created earlier. Specifically, the funds are designated to:
- Complete the flooring, carpet and wall painting
- Completion of fitted kitchen and appliances including hand dryer for toilet.
- Audio / Visual equipment for presentations and training including PC and large flat screen monitor.
- Folding tables and notice boards.
- Studwork partitioning and electrical requirements for drying room beneath the mezzanine.
-Chairs
The total awarded was £9,957. This very generous donation will go a long way to helping the team complete the main works to complete the Rescue Centre, and transform it into the community resource we always imagined it would finally become. We will update this page as and when the works are completed. Fundraising continues to compete finessing other aspects of the Rescue Centre.
We rely entirely on donations from the public. So we have to do several things to get that money. We also attend several events throughout the year to raise awareness of the team, to provide safety cover for events. We need your help to ensure our team can carry on functioning and providing you the public the service you expect. To put it in basic terms: we need more donations.
We also visit various organisations to promote the team and give talks.
